Located at the heart of the St. Michaels University School senior school campus, the historic 1909 Schoolhouse building was fully rehabilitated and seismically upgraded to current Code. The original brick exterior walls, timber structure, wood windows and roof were restored while new elevator, concrete stairs and shear walls were inserted into the building interior. On the north side a 1960s era library wing was removed and replaced by a larger, two level Library addition completed in a complementary style. The new Library features a central atrium with vaulted ceiling and clerestory windows spanned by an arched glulam beam roof structure. The project included panelling and library furniture executed in cherry as well as custom light fixtures.

As project architect, Jim collaborated with Paul Merrick and Bette Adams on the Library design and was responsible for overseeing all project phase services while at Merrick Architecture Borowski Sakumoto Fligg Limited.
